Hagia Sophia (Aya Sofia) is a byzantine building in Istanbul raised between 532-537. It is a former Orthodox patriarchal basilica, later a mosque, now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. Designed by Isidore of Miletus, a physicist, and Anthemius of Tralles, a mathematician, it was the seat of the Patriarch of Constantinople and the religious focal point of the Eastern Orthodox Church for almost one thousand years.
