Title
La Porte du Croux located in Nevers, France. #126659658
Description
A former drawbridge with a drawbridge and machicolations built at the end of the 14th century, the Porte du Croux owes its name to the wet ground formed by the waters of the Passière, now underground. In 1847, Baron de Vertpré bought the building in order to offer it to the city of Nevers to ensure its restoration as a historic monument and install an antique museum. Since 1851, the Porte du Croux houses the archaeological museum of Nivernais. Installed on three levels, this museum presents remarkable objects coming mainly from Nevers and the whole department of Nièvre.
