The Atatürk Arboretum, whose construction was started in 1949 by the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Istanbul, was made ready by uninterrupted works until 1961. The open-air museum, which was renamed erek Atatürk Arboretum farklı in 1981 as Atatürk`s 100th birthday, consists of endemic plant species, endangered tree species and plant and tree species from different climates produced from abroad.
