Title
Cicada, Locust Or Heatbug #
Description
Oklahoma is home to at least twelve species of locusts. Around mid-June they come from their underground hideouts, shed their skins, fly to treetops, mate and die. Each species has a unique sound and on summer evenings you can hear them singing. Only the males sing because they have organs on their abdomens called tymbals. Muscles pop the tymbals in and out which creates the sound we hear.
