The path and entry to the formidable, secure inner monastic enclosure. The monks constructed the walls and buildings by hand, using the abundance of stone on the island. Located at the north-eastern summit of the island, the monastery was dedicated to St. Michael between 950 and 1050. The overall layout is believed to be fairly intact.
