Description
To reach Skellig Michael Monastery, climbing a narrow uneven unprotected stone staircase is required. Below the staircase is the turbulent Atlantic Ocean; above stand spectacular jagged stone formations. The climber cannot be distracted by either the views above or below. Located at the north-eastern summit of the island, this Irish Christian monastery was dedicated to St. Michael between 950 and 1050. The overall layout is believed to be fairly intact. Michael Skellig Monastery can be accessed by boat only between May and September due to winter storms. Near Ring of Kerry. UNESCO World Heritage Sit.
