Description
Looking down on Christ`s Valley or Christ`s Saddle, an area near the top of Skellig Michael, battered by relentless wild Atlantic storms, from the deeply eroded crags and stone stairs that continue to the monastery. This area is the flattest on the island and provides a resting place for those climbing the treacherous unprotected staircase to the monastery. Located at the north-eastern summit of the island, this Irish Christian monastery was dedicated to St. Michael between 950 and 1050. The overall layout is believed to be fairly intact. Michael Skellig Monastery can be accessed by boat only between May and September due to winter storms. Near Ring of Kerry. UNESCO World Heritage Sit.
