Description
The Villa of the Island is a unique and one of the best known structures at Hadrians Villa. A moat encircles a tiny island upon which a small villa was built comprising of differently designed rooms around a courtyard with porticoes and a fountain complex. The Moat is surrounded by corridor like portico with 40 Ionic columns. Access to the island was via two wooden drawbridges. Villa Hadrian was built from 118 as to 134 as. Today you can only see one fifth of the original villa.
