Ancient military structures as tourist stops #128876236
Description
Although military fortifications are serious business historically and today, abandoned forts are now travel destinations. Charles Fort, a star-shaped military fortress, was built between 1677 and 1682, during the reign of King Charles II to protect the town and harbor of Kinsale in County Cork. It is one of the largest military forts in Ireland.
