Description
Between 1947 and 1948 the Officine FS of Porta al Prato and Voghera returned to the FS 9 cars that went to form the Presidential Train. These cars came from the Royal Train and had all been more or less damaged during the war. The Royal Train, built between 1928 and 1933 for the needs of the House of Savoy, consisted of 12 cars of the type 1921 with a metal case. The first three carriages were built in 1929 by FIAT, which was the winner of the National Competition for the construction of a Royal Train to be set up on the occasion of the wedding of the Crown Prince Umberto di Savoia with Princess Maria Josè. The Royal Train was enriched with installations made by the best artisans of the time in the field of bronze and leather, inlays, weaving, of embroidery and decorations.
