Title
Blue Star Memorial Highway Eisenhower Interstate System San Francisco. #129340764
Description
It was recognized by 1916 and WW1 that a national network of highways was needed for use by the military in case of a national emergency, but could also be used by business, for the quick and safe movement of personal, equipment and goods, around the country. President Eisenhower, as a military officer in Europe, greatly admired their highway system. The five stars on the signage was his rank. The National Council of Garden clubs, predecessor of the National Garden Club, started the Blue Start Highway to pay tribute to our armed forces. This section in San Francisco is being reworked.
