Geographic and Ceremonial South Pole #13070827
Description
The Geographic South Pole is marked with a brass marker designed and manufactured by the staff of the South Pole Amundsen-Scott research base. Because of the movement of the ice sheet each year a new marker is made and relocated on New Years Day to the current location of the Geographic South Pole. A ceremony is held to celebrate the occasion. Located nearby is the Ceremonial South Pole with the familiar ââ¬Åbarber poleââ¬Â marker surrounded by the flags of the original signatory nations of the Antarctic Treaty.
