Historically Liverpool had a promontory that stuck out south into what was known as the Pool, a sluggish body of water flowing from the north-east. It is likely that the current name derived originally from the ÃÆïÃÆÃÂPoolÃÆÃÂÃÆÃÂ. Possibly the mythological Liver bird was derived from a similar water-loving bird
