Mathematical Bridge @ Cambridge #132267413
Description
ItÃÂ is the popular name of aÃÂ wooden footbridgeÃÂ in the centralÃÂ Cambridge,ÃÂ UK. It bridges theÃÂ River CamÃÂ about one hundred feet northwest ofÃÂ Silver Street BridgeÃÂ and connects two parts ofÃÂ Queens& x27; College. TheÃÂ bridgeÃÂ was designed byÃÂ William Etheridge, and built byÃÂ James EssexÃÂ in 1749. It has been rebuilt on two occasions, in 1866 and in 1905, but has kept the same overall design. Although it appears to be an arch, it is composed entirely of straight timbers built to an unusually sophisticated engineering design.
