Description
Pictured is a painting of Ludwig Moser, founder of the world-famous Moser glass company. He was born June 18, 1833 in Karlovy Vary. He studied in Vienna and Loket, learned to engrave under Andreas Mattoni and attended drawing courses given by the artist Ernst Anton. He also travelled the world and gathered experience at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague before, at the age of 23, laying the foundations for the manufacture of world famous glass products when he opened his own workshop. He died in 1916. Moser is one of the most collected of 20th century decorative glass and has been used everywhere from palaces to local restaurants. From its beginnings in 1857, as a polishing and engraving workshop, it developed into a lead-free glass manufacturer lasting through the 20th century until the present.
