Nanga Parbat is considered the second hardest 8,000-meter peak after K2, the second highest peak in the world, as well as one of the most dangerous. After 31 people died attempting to climb Nanga Parbat before it`s 1953 first ascent, it was nicknamed the `Killer Mountainââ¬Â. Nanga Parbat locally known as Diamer, is the ninth highest mountain in the world at 8,126 metres 26,660 ft above sea level. Located in the Diamer District of Pakistanââ¬â¢s Gilgit Baltistan region, Nanga Parbat is the western anchor of the Himalayas. Nanga Parbat has tremendous vertical relief over local terrain in all direction. The ridge is an enormous bulk of ice and rock. It has three faces, Diamir face, Rakhiot, and Rupal.
