This 18th Century embroidery is dating from 1740. #134627014
Description

It is in my own collection and I acquired it 30 years ago. It was dated by a local embroidery museum and it was part of the front of a panelled dress. The background is yellow Japanese silk with a design of Pagodas and the silk is 18 inches wide because of the silk tax of this time. They asked me to donate it to the museum as there was not as fine an embroidery in their collection, but I declined and I still have it. It was valued and authenticated 20 years ago by a television antiques show It is in single thread embroidery. No two flowers are the same . Some of the flowers are appliquéd onto the fabric and these are mainly carnations and tulips. These may be older that the rest of the work and could have been taken off another garment they might even be Elizabethan. I photographed it in 2014 but it can be re photographed if necessary
