Description
Gnarled catalpa tree trunk still stands at Chatham Manor, an 18th century plantation home open to the public in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It was built by William Fitzhugh, and is considered a Virginia Tidewater country house. During the Battle of Fredericksburg, it was used as a hospital, and also was the headquarters and communications center during the war. It is located across from the Rappahannock River, just near Fredericksburg`s historic district.
