`DEVLUGH VA EGIPTEN` on a white blank wall on the Begijnhof, Amsterdam #136446566
Description
Pictured is a stone relief titled `DEVLUGH VA EGIPTEN`, which translates to `The flight to Egypt`. It was part of a restoration project for eight worn 17th and 18th century stone plaques with biblical scenes. They were completely restored by restorer Wil Abels and installed on a blank white wall in the Begijnhof. The plaque depicts the story recounted in the Gospel of Matthew 2:13ââ¬â23. Soon after the visit by the Magi, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream telling him to flee to Egypt with Mary and the infant Jesus since King Herod would seek the child to kill him.
