Pictured is a bronze sculpture of mercury by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The sculptor was Ferdinand Leenhoff and it was created in 1898. In mythology, Mercury was the god of commerce and the messenger of the gods. That is why he wears winged sandals to take him swiftly from one place to another. Beside him lies his caduceus, a staff with two coiled snakes.
