Jharkhand has a population of 26. 90 million, consisting of 13. 86 million males and 13. 04 million females. There are 32 different tribal communities, major one being Santhals, Oraons, Mundas and Hos. The predominant communities have their strong presence in the state that is reflected through their festivals, rituals, music, language and literature. Their lifestyles are also so distinct that they have influenced the cN INDIA, more than 90 per cent of the groundwater is consumed for agriculture. Of this a large percentage of water is used on that land which requires constant irrigation. According to the Ministry of Water Resources, industrial water use in India stands at about 50 billion cubic meters or nearly 6 per cent of total freshwater abstraction.
