Carpenter Bee female digging nest hole #14062715
Description
The carpenter bee, so known because it digs holes in wood for its nest, is found worldwide. The bee is borning into a porte chochere made of bald-cypress (Taxodium distichum). This species, Xylocopa virginica, occurs throughout the southeastern United States and farther. Females do all the digging of the nests, using their mandibles (mouth parts) and a vibration of the body to bore through wood. T
