Auberge Orisson is on the gruelling Napoleon Route over the very steep Pyrenees and though only 5km from St Jean Pied de Port it is a steep walk all the way and gets steeper after Orisson which is the only essential food, water and rest facility before the town of Roncesvalles 20km further away ! Depending on weather conditions Pilgrims starting out in St Jean Pied de Port have two routes, the other less gruelling route is the lowland walk around the base of the Pyrenees.
