Description
The fleet led by Jorge Alvares first landed at the Pearl River Port in China in 1513. This opened the prelude to the Portugueseââ¬â¢s trade activities on the southeast coast of China. In 1557, the Portuguese were allowed to sneak into Macau, making Macau a major port in the East in the Great Navigation. The government commemorated Jorge Alvares and made a stone statue for him.
