Hastings pier, once fire-wrecked and then brought back from the dead after being doomed to fall into the sea from neglect, was gloriously rescued.. The Heritage Lottery Fund put up £13m, and more than 3,000 people bought shares totaling £590,000. A new deck and superstructure were installed by architects de Rijke Marsh Morgan and won the 2017 Stirling prize, awarded by the Royal Institute of British Architects for the best building project of the year, went to the renovation. Now as of April 2019 the pier is closed and has been since December 2018. Money, or lack of it has seen the pier as not a viable venture and it faces an uncertain future under it`s current owner Abid Gulzar.
