Description
On the slopes of Cima Muta, west of Tirolo Castle, Thurnstein Castle is located. The view on the entire Val dââ¬â¢Adige is fantastic. In 1276 ââ¬ÅThurm Platzleidââ¬Â has been mentioned for the first time in written documents.The name Thurnstein, as the castle is called today, has been mentioned for the first time in 1478. Meinhard II, a reknown figure in history, enfeoffed the castle to Konrad Milser in 1282. It kept changing hands up to the 17th century, when the Egen family from Merano purchased the building. They also added the northern wing in the 18th century.The castle is still managed by the ancestors of this family, some rooms were reconstructed into a restaurant already after World War I. Currently the castle houses a hotel in the former farm building and a restaurant. There the famous Napoleon-Wine is offered, the name goes back to the arrival of the message, that Emperor Napoleon III was arrested near Sedan.
