In 1808 Napoleon decided to install his throne in the former bedroom of the Kings of France from Henry IV to Louis XVI, on the place where the royal bed had been. Under the Old Regime, the King`s bed was a symbol of royal authority in France and was saluted by courtiers who passed by it. Napoleon wanted to show the continuity of his Empire with the past monarchies of FranceThe Palace of Fontainebleau or Chateau de Fontainebleau, located 55 kilometres 34 miles southeast of the center of Paris, in the commune of Fontainebleau, is one of the largest French royal chÃÆÃâÃâ ââ¬â¢ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãââteaux. The medieval castle and subsequent palace served as a residence for the French monarchs from Louis VII to Napoleon III.
