The Irish memorial in Philadelphia was erected in remembrance of the Great Hunger an Gorta MÃÆÃâÃâór, in Ireland 1845-1850. This detail from the memorial shows Mother and Son peasants trying to harvest potatoes. As a result of the potato disease, 1 million were estimated to have perished.
