The hazelnut is the fruit of the hazel, a plant cultivated by man already in antiquity. After almonds are the richest fruit of vitamin E and are a source of phytosterols, a group of substances considered important for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Hazelnuts also contain monounsaturated fats able to lower the level of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. It should not be confused with the peanut, a term with which the peanut is mistakenly called.
