Description
The Fountain of Neptune is located in the north end of the Piaza Navona and originally was used as a source of water for drinking and washing. The basin was designed in 1574 by Giacomo Della Porta and for the next 300 years did not contain statues. The fountain was completed in 1878 by Antonio della Bitta. Gregorio Zappala, another Italian sculptor was responsible for the cupids.
