Description
Pictured is a bronze statue of Alessandro Manzoni, an Italian poet and novelist. He is famous for the novel The Betrothed, ranked among the masterpieces of world literature. The statue was built in 1883 by the Lombard sculptor Francesco Barzaghi. It was erected in Piazza San Fedele home of the church of San Fedele where the writer worshipped during his life and where he fell and suffered an injury which subsequently led to his death at age 88.
