Petergof, Russia, July 2019.Fountain `Triton` in the lower park. #153414102
Description
In the middle of the round pool, a sculptural group was set up: `A Triton tearing the mouth of a sea monster.` Four turtles scatter from the place of the fight in fear. From the mouths of a crocodile and turtles bubbling streams of water are pulled out. In the 18th century, the sculpture of the `Greenhouse` fountain was given a symbolic meaning: the young Russian fleet, who had decisively defeated the Swedish squadron at Gangute on July 27, 1714, was personified in the image of Triton. The fountain was built in 1726 by the architect T. Usov, one of the remarkable Russian architects of the time of Peter the Great.nÃÂ n
