Petergof, Russia, July 2019. View of the cascade of fountains `Golden Mountain`. #153651731
Description
The shape of the cascade was formed by 1732, further changes concerned only the sculptural decoration. In the sculptural decoration of the `Golden Mountain`, as in the design of the Grand Cascade, the theme of maritime dominion of Russia is traced. On the upper wall, in the center, there is a statue of the Lord of the seas of Neptune with a trident in his hands. To his left is Triton, blowing in a sea shell; on the right is Bacchus, the god of wine and fun. Below the pedestals of each statue are attached three gilded mascarons of fantastic sea monsters. Powerful streams burst from their open mouths and flow down smoothly, covering the gilding of numerous ledges with a transparent veil.ÃÂ
