The Winter Palace is the main residence of the Romanov dynasty, built in the middle of the 18th century in St. Petersburg by order of the Empress Elizabeth. The spectacular baroque building was the first in the complex of buildings that make up the modern Hermitage. The main facade of the Winter Palace overlooks Palace Square - the most visited attraction of the Northern capital.
