Myriad clouds of Painted Lady Butterflies - Vanessa Cardui – known as the Cosmopolitan in North America, are currently populating meadows and woodlands across the British Isles, taking part in a decade occurring event involving millions of butterflies. These creatures despite having a fragile appearance can travel huge distances following their migratory route. Such increased sightings of these wonderful butterflies, is believed to be due to favourable breeding conditions happening across the whole of the UK at the current time. All of which is welcome news when there is a nationally recognised decline in British butterfly populations.
