The Museum Carlo Bilotti for contemporary art in Rome, Italy #155144239
Description
The mysterious archaeologists by Giorgio de Chirico in the Orangery of Villa Borghese today the Museum Carlo Bilotti for contemporary art in Rome, Italy. The painting from 1926 represents two mannequin statues. The ancient buildings which cover their stomachs characterize them as archaeologists. Each figure is represented in a unique tonality which makes them seem to be made of stone, as if they themselves were ancient sculpture. The originality of this work comes from the contrast of the two figures, one seen from the front, the other from the back, one light, the other dark, the reason why to the work has been given the second title of Day and Night
