La Alhambra - Valencia, Spain #156594010
Description
La Albambra, a palace and fortress of the Moorish monarchs of Granada, Spain, was constructed between 1238 and 1358. The name `Alhambra` signifying `the red` in Arabic, is probably derived from the reddish color of the outer walls. The complex was built in stages by various rulers and was damaged and reconstructed several times over the centuries. The plateau on which La Alhambra is built overlooks the Albaicin quarter of Grandda`s Moorish old city. Inside the complex is a conglomeration of beautifully designed buildings and gardens. It is a spectacular landmark in Granada, Spain.
