Hungry Downy Woodpecker Looking for Breakfast #156676918
Description
Image shows an adult Downy Woodpecker pecking away on native vegetation looking for a meal. Watched him hop from plant to plant looking for small seeds or insects. Very busy bird. Liked how the morning sunlight hit him, as he searched along the Arkansas River in southeast Colorado. Beautiful bird with his markings of white black and red and his dots and spots.Downy woodpeckers are native to forested areas, mainly deciduous, of North America. Their range consists of most of the United States and Canada, except for the deserts of the southwest and the tundra of the north. Mostly permanent residents, northern birds may migrate further south; birds in mountainous areas may move to lower elevations.
