Whale watching in Skjalfandi bay. #158588625
Description
Whales are a widely distributed and diverse group of fully aquatic placental marine mammals. Whales are creatures of the open ocean; they feed, mate, give birth, suckle and raise their young at sea. So extreme is their adaptation to life underwater that they are unable to survive on land. Skjalfandi is a bay in northern Iceland, with some of the characteristics of a fjord. The Icelandic word Skjalfandi literally translates to trembling which may refer to earthquakes in the area. Skjalfandi Bay hosts around 24 species of whales. Iceland, Europe
