Bronze fittings from two roman ships in the First Floor of the Roman National Museum Palazzo Massimo alle Terme in Rome, Italy. The ships were recovered at the bottom of Lake Nemi in Lazio in the 1930s. These elaborate vessels had been built by order of Caligula and were used by the emperor as floating palaces. Palazzo Massimo has one of the best archaeological collections in the world. Also known as the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme due to its proximity to the Baths of Diocletian, the museum building is a great palace built between 1883 and 1887.It houses the best-preserved Roman frescoes in the world.The National Museum of Rome was founded in 1889 and inaugurated in 1890. Today, the National Museum includes four different, smaller museums, Crypta Balbi, Palazzo Attemps, Palazzo Massimo alle Terme and Baths of Diocletian.
