Description
Pictured is the Chapelle de la Visitation Sainte-Claire at the foot of Castle Hill in Nice, France. It was founded in 1604 as a convent of the Poor Clares. The Poor Clare Nuns were founded in the thirteenth century by Saint Clare under the inspiration and guidance of Saint Francis of Assisi. In 1793, the nuns had to leave because of the Revolution. The Visitation Sisters, or Visitadines took over the convent and occupied it until 1960. It was purchased from the sisters by the City of Nice and became a historical monument in 1989.
