The frescoes, which adorned the interior walls of the villa, provide a vivid picture of what a grand ancient Roman villa would have looked like. Palazzo Massimo has one of the best archaeological collections in the world. Also known as the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme due to its proximity to the Baths of Diocletian, the museum building is a great palace built between 1883 and 1887.It houses the best-preserved Roman frescoes in the world.The National Museum of Rome was founded in 1889 and inaugurated in 1890. Today, the National Museum includes four different, smaller museums, Crypta Balbi, Palazzo Attemps, Palazzo Massimo alle Terme and Baths of Diocletian.
