Huntington Water Falls at Stow Lake Golden Gate Park, 1. #161364898
Description
John McLaren, the founding superintendent of Golden Gate Park, had the vision for transforming his barren stretch of sand dunes into a lush park with water falls when he was with John Muir in the Sierras. After receiving a $25,000 donation from railroad baron Collis Huntington, McLaren was able to build his first, and biggest, water fall atop Strawberry Hill, in the center of Stow Lake, Golden Gate Park.
