The Caserma dei Corazzieri del Quirinale in Rome #161524948
Description
The Caserma dei Corazzieri on the Quirinale in Rome is the seat of the honor guard of the President of the Republic. It occupies a part of the monastic complex annexed to the church of Santa Susanna which in 1870 passed to the state. On the occasion of the FAI Days it will be possible to visit not only the rooms used by the Cuirassiers - the stables, the saddlery, the covered riding hall, the armor corridor and the chapel - but also the extraordinary archaeological complex highlighted in the 1960s which includes a section of the ancient Servian walls and part of a nymph of the Neronian era embellished with a precious mosaic decoration in glass paste. It is probable that the monumental fountain belonged to the rich abodes of the Flavians, who gave Rome three emperors: Vespasian, Titus and Domitian.
