Church of San Francisco Javier in Cáceres #162663020
Description
Pedro Sánchez Lobato was the architect in charge of directing the works.1 The church was built with a Latin cross plan, with side chapels connected with shortcuts and a cruise closed by a dome with a lantern. The steep slope that the square presents serves to make the whole look much more monumental, highlighting the two towers of the facade, square masonry and masonry, topped by two pyramidal spiers. Between both towers, a semicircular arch guarded by double columns serves as a door. Above it, a niche houses an image of Saint Francis Xavier and the shield of Castile and Leon, topped off by a broken pediment. This main facade was remodeled in 1992.Inside, the main altarpiece stands out, occupied by an 18th-century canvas with images of San Francisco Javier.
