`Riverbed` information stone and plaque inside the Freedman`s Cemetery Memorial in Dallas, Texas #163285514
Description
Pictured is one of two `Riverbed` information plaques on granite stones inside the Freedman`s Cemetery Memorial in Dallas, Texas. The stone and plaque is symbolic of crossing over from the monument area to the afterlife cemetery. The memorial is the work of American sculptor and artist David Newton, who was selected for the commission in a national competition. The Cemetery has been in existence since 1861 and there are estimated to be 5,000 unmarked graves. The only two remaining headstones are imbedded in the back of a piece of granite that has a poem carved on it`s surface.
