Stonehenge is a stone building built in the Stone Age and used until the Bronze Age. It is the oldest sundial.The building is situated near the town of Amesbury in the English county of Wiltshire, about 13 km northwest of Salisbury.It consists of a ditch surrounded by a structure of stone blocks, which are again surrounded by several circles consisting of stones. The two most striking stone circles are the outer circle of stone pillars on which other stones are laid like beams. As well as the internal structure in the shape of a horseshoe from the original five trilites two bearing stones on which the covering stone - beam.Meanwhile, there are other structures of smaller stones and various pits in the ground. Other megaliths as well as mounds are in the immediate vicinity.The formation of this building can be roughly divided into several stages. The early phase of the building with a circular stone `wall` and a depression dates back to approximately 3100 BC. A striking megalithic structure was constructed between 2500 BC. and 2000 BC. It is assumed that this place served as a ceremonial place. It is built so that at sunrise and sunset shine straight to the center of the building.There are many legends to this place. The best-known reputation is still from the time of King Arthur. According to this legend, the wizard Merlin was to build Stonehenge with the help of a giant. He constructed this ceremonial monument for both lines and healing.
