The Fat Hands Scorpion Diplocentrus formosus is a species of scorpion belonging to the Diplocentridae fami, which inhabits in Mexico, and is found also in Guatemala. This species was described by Armas and Martin-Frias in 2003. The name “Formosus” derives from the latin adjective which means Beautiful. In the males, the color of his shell is yellowish-brown, the pedipalps are also in this color but brighter, while females tend to be more darker. They are medium-sized, reaching lengths of 4.5 to 6.5cms. As well as others members of this genus, the pincers are robust and strong. In the base of the stinger there is a tuber that looks like a notch. You can find them in low altitudes, where the predominant vegetation is the lower jungle. They are of nocturnal habits, live in deep holes burrowed in the ground.
