Uley long barrow 3,500 BC | Cotswold-Severn #163687102
Description
Uley Long Barrow locally known as Hetty Peglerââ¬â¢s Tump after Hester Pegler, who owned the land in the 17th century is a Neolithic burial mound, at least 5,000 years old and with an impressive location overlooking the valley of Severn.Between 15 and 20 skeletons have been recovered from the burial mound over the years, but we know little about the later history of these findings. Two skulls went to Guyââ¬â¢s Hospital in London, but it is said that most of the bones were buried again in the cemetery of Uley. Despite its seemingly good condition, Uley Barrow has suffered considerably from vandalism and occasional excavations.
