Description
Thonon-les-Bains is an attractive town on the edge of Lake Leman, the biggest lake in Europe. General Dessaix was volunteer in the National Guard of Paris, he participates in the taking of the Bastille. This general, whom the emperor nicknamed `the intrepid`, died peacefully in Thonon on October 26, 1834. His name, engraved in the stone of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris among the most valiant officers of Napoleon, perpetuates forever his memory. At the background you see the Basilica Saint-Francois the Sales, an impressive neo-Gothic cathedral.
